I came across a video online stating that to be an anarchist, you needed to be anti-consumerism and anti-capitalism. Which I can understand the origin and sentiment of thinking. There is a sense of historical reference in the mindset. However, it seems bit hypocritical or ironic in depth. Anarchism is the societal basis of voluntary cooperation without institutions or hierarchal government. In a modern lens, that can be related to the consumerism that capitalism has bred. Yet, by itself, I wouldn’t say that (disciplined) consumerism is negative or against anarchy. Neither would I say a generalization of capitalism within an understanding of free-market policy is against anarchy.
